Dubbed "A female Tom Waits" by some, Shain calls herself the female lovechild of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Her lyrics are thought-provoking and sometimes political with just the right amount of irony and humor. Her first solo CD, Between The River And The Road - produced by legendary multi-instrumentalist Freddy Koella (Bob Dylan, K.D. Lang) - has enjoyed airplay across the country and around the world. Her latest CD, What The Heart Wants, as well as her memoir Seeing The Real You At Last (Life And Love On The Road With Bob Dylan), were released to rave reviews on May 3rd, 2016. “Britta Lee Shain sings with grit and passion, some of the colors you don't get as often as you want to from the current palette of singer/songwriters. I like the way she takes on the discovery of where a relationship is heading by the road it travels, literally or metaphorically. Ride with her, you'll enjoy the trip.” ~ Sonnie Brown, Host of SongTown on Public Radio KCBX.

Detailed Bio:

Britta Lee Shain was born with a transistor radio in one hand and a pen in the other. Her mother, a professional singer and actress whose singing credits include Radio City Music Hall, wanted her to be a doctor. Her uncle, noted Brill Building bandleader and music publisher, Teddy Powell, sent her the latest 45rpm records hot off the press. At six, she began playing classical and popular piano. At twenty, a James Taylor concert at West Hollywood's famed Troubadour (with opening act Carole King) inspired her to buy her first guitar. Coming of age in the late 1960s, Shain spent pivotal years in Berkeley, where her early musical tastes were edgy and varied: Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. In the 90s she studied creative writing with famed author of City of Night, Penn Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, John Rechy. After trying her hand at screenwriting, novel writing and writing a memoir about her travels with a rock and roll band, in 2001, she turned her creative energy to songwriting. Dubbed “A female Tom Waits” by Linda Kordek of the Agency Group, Shain calls herself the female lovechild of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Her lyrics are thought-provoking and sometimes political with just the right amount of irony and humor. On the right night, you will find Shain accompanied by world famous multi-instrumentalists who have toured with the likes of Dylan, K.D. Lang, The Spencer Davis Group, Rita Coolidge and more. “I'm lucky to have a lot of great musician friends who like to sit in with me," Shain says. "I call them my "Accidental Posse.” Britta Lee Shain's first solo CD, Between The River And The Road - produced by legendary multi-instrumentalist Freddy Koella (Bob Dylan, K.D. Lang) - has enjoyed airplay across the country and around the world. Her memoir Seeing The Real You At Last (Life And Love On The Road With Bob Dylan) was released to rave reviews on May 3rd, 2016, along with her new CD, What The Heart Wants, which features a song she wrote for Bob Dylan, a song written with Dylan, and Dylan’s latter-day hit, Make You Feel My Love. “Britta Lee Shain sings with grit and passion, some of the colors you don't get as often as you want to from the current palette of singer/songwriters.
