TOO MUCH FAME
You shine a big light, baby
But when you shut it down
My whole world goes gray and murky
And I can’t hear a sound
I try my best to get to you
But you just disappear
Some people say that you’re a star
I just think you’re weird
I reach out, I touch you
But you’re not there
Too much fame will do that to you
When you’re not even aware
You cast a long shadow, baby
When you’re out walkin’ tall
Then you go and shrivel up
Into a little ball
People flood you with undying love
But you just drink them dry
You say it’s lonely at the top
I can’t imagine why
I reach out, I touch you
But you’re not there
Too much fame will do that to you
When you’re not even aware
Last time I saw you, baby
Was right before the fall
People all around you goin’ crazy
But you just looked so small
And the caravan of worshippers
Who carried you away
Were found dead in some back alley
With no blood in their veins
I reach out, I touch you
But you’re not there
Too much fame will do that to you
When you’re not even aware
I reach out, I touch you
But you’re not there
Too much pain will do that to you
When you’re not even aware
